Ans: Hormones

VII. Give very short answer

1. Describe about skeletal system.

✱The skeletal system consists of bones, cartilages and joints.

✱Bones provide a framework for the body.

✱Bones along with muscles help in movements such as walking, running, chewing and dancing etc.

2. Write the functions of epiglottis.

✱It prevents the entry of food into the windpipe.

✱It opens when the air enters into the windpipe.

3. What are the three types of blood vessels?

The three types of blood vessels are

arteries,

veins and

Capillaries.

4. Define the term "Trachea".

✱The trachea, commonly called as windpipe.

✱It is a tube supported by cartilaginous rings that connects the pharynx and larynx to the lungs, allowing the passage of air.

✱The trachea divides into right and left bronchi and enter into the lungs.

5. Write any two functions of digestive system.

i) Digestive system is involved in the conversion of complex food substances into simple forms and absorption of digested food.

ii) Absorption of digested food occurs in the small intestine.

6. Name the important parts of the eye.

The eye has three main parts namely

cornea,

iris and

pupil.

7. Name the five important sense organs.

Five sense organs in our body are eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin.

VIII. Give short answer

1. Write a short note on rib cage.

The rib cage is made up of 12 pairs of curved, flat rib bones. It protects the delicate vital organs such as the heart and lungs.

2. List out the functions of the human skeleton.

Skeleton systems provide a framework for the body.

Skeleton system protects the soft internal organs.

3. Differentiate between the voluntary muscles and involuntary muscles.

Voluntary muscles

Involuntary muscles

Skeletal muscles of our body are attached to the bones

Smooth muscles are found in internal organs.

They can be controlled by our will

They can not be controlled by our will.

Example: Muscles of arm.

Example: Digestive tract, urinary bladder muscle

IX. Answer in detail

1 List out the functions of Endocrine system and Nervous system.

Functions of Endocrine System:

i) Endocrine system regulates various functions of the body and maintains the internal environment.

ii) Endocrine glands are present in the body, produce chemical substances called hormones.

Functions of Nervous System:

i) Sensory Input The conduction of signals from sensory receptors

ii) Integration The interpretation of the sensory signals and the formulation of responses.

iii) Motor output The conduction of signals from the brain and spinal cord to effectors, such as muscle and gland cells.

2. Label the diagram given below to show the four main parts of the urinary

system and answer the following questions

A. Which organ removes extra salts and water from the blood?

Ans: Kidney removes extra salts and water from the blood

B. Where is the urine stored?

Ans: Urine stored in the Urinary bladder

C. What is the tube through which urine is excreted out of the body?

Ans: The tube through which urine is excreted out of the body is Urethra

D. What are the tubes that transfer urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder called?

Ans: The tubes that transfer urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder is Ureter.

X. Questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills

1. What will happen if the diaphragm shows no movement?

✱If it shows no movement, the whole breathing system gets stopped.

✱Person Will not be able to breathe if diaphragm shows no movement.

✱Diaphragm paralysis can even lead to death because of respiratory issues.

✱Diaphragm is an essential muscle that creates suction and lets air get inside the lungs.

✱The respiratory system is majorly dependent on the diaphragm.

2. Why is the heart divided into two halves by a thick muscular wall?

✱Heart is divided into two halves by a thick wall so that the septum separates the left and right ventricle which pumps blood to different parts of the body.

✱The right ventricle pumps the deoxygenated blood to the lungs.

✱The left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body.

✱If there was no separate wall the oxygen rich and poor blood will mix up and will disturb the circulatory system .

3. Why do we sweat more in summer?

✱Our body has to maintain an internal body temperature within a range of temperatures between 97 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

✱When we are exposed to high external temperatures during summer our body works in order to cool itself down and keep internal temperature within a safe range.

✱The main way the body does this is by sweating.

✱Sweat works with body temperature in a way that it allows the body to cool itself down.

✱So, during summer, our bodies sweat more than normal days.

4. Why do we hiccup and cough sometimes when we swallow food?

✱When we eat in a hurry, talk or laugh while eating, we may get hiccups.

✱Generally air and food share a common passage.

✱When food particles enter the windpipe, the windpipe carries air from the nostrils to the lungs and runs adjacent to the food pipe.

✱While swallowing, a flap-like valve closes the passage of the windpipe and allows the food into the food pipe.

✱When we eat in a hurry, talk or laugh while eating, food particles enter the windpipe and we get hiccups.

✱Anything that causes the stomach to become bigger than usual (distension) also trigger hiccups.
